Genetically engineered (GE) or Genetically modified (GM)
There is a lot of concern and a lack of knowledge about genetically modified foods. The information presented here  is designed to educate and empower you, as a consumer to make healthy choices. Organic foods are not grown from GE or GM seeds, nor is the use of toxic herbicides allowed to be used on your food.

GE Sugar Beets were put in stores in 2008, in addition to beets, the other GE foods are corn and soy. The concern is that these seeds are genetically modified to allow up to 5 times more Roundup ( a common herbicide) to be sprayed on them, this reduces the amount of weeding the farmer is required to do. Some of this food is then fed to livestock and some goes directly into foods we buy in the store. There is no requirement for labeling. Current studies being conducted are suggesting that there may be some long term health consequences from ingestion of these foods and the residual herbicide chemicals on the food.
